What Makes To Wipro CEO Delaporte’s Resignation And who’s New CEO?

Thierry Delaporte has resigned as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Wipro, one of India’s top IT services companies, after facing challenges in recent years. Srinivas Pallia, a 32-year veteran of the company, will assume the role of CEO and managing director starting April 7. Delaporte cited a desire to pursue interests outside of work as the reason for his departure.

During his five-year term, Delaporte focused on laying a strong foundation for Wipro. However, the company experienced significant changes in its operating model, high-level departures, and costly acquisitions that did not result in growth. Wipro is expected to be the only top four IT firm in India to report a decline in revenue for the most recent fiscal year.

Industry experts, including Phil Fersht of HFS Research, believe that Delaporte’s leadership was not steering Wipro in the right direction. His lack of presence at the company’s offices in India and the U.S. contributed to low morale among employees. Delaporte will remain with Wipro until May 31.

Srinivas Pallia, who previously led Wipro’s Americas 1 market, will now oversee key sectors such as healthcare, consumer goods, life sciences, and retail. This leadership change comes amid similar transitions at Wipro’s competitors, with Tata Consultancy Services and Tech Mahindra appointing new CEOs in recent months.

LTIMindtree is also preparing for a change in leadership, with internal candidates being considered to succeed current CEO Debashis Chatterjee. The company is unlikely to extend Chatterjee’s term, which is set to end next year.
