Imran Khan’s conviction in the Toshakhana case; temporarily halted

The Islamabad High Court has temporarily halted the enforcement of Imran Khan’s conviction in the Toshakhana case.

Toshakhana corruption case came a day after the court had reserved its verdict on Khan’s appeal against his conviction. This development potentially opens the door for his participation in the upcoming national elections.

Chief Justice Aamir Farooq of the Islamabad High Court, as reported by Pakistani media outlet Dawn, stated, “The copy of the judgment will be available shortly… all we are saying now is that [Imran’s] request has been approved.” This decision was announced by a panel consisting of Chief Justice Farooq and Justice Tariq Mehmood Jahangiri.

However, there remains uncertainty regarding when or if Khan will be released from Attock Jail in Punjab, where he is currently incarcerated.

Naeem Haider Panjotha, Khan’s spokesperson on legal matters, took to the platform X (formerly known as Twitter) to share the news. In Urdu, he wrote, “Punishment suspended Alhamdulillah,” and he also posted a video showing the legal team gathering in court to hear the highly anticipated verdict.
