Badminton Asia Team Championships 2024; Anmol Kharb’s Heroics Lead Indian Women’s Team to Victory
India’s women’s badminton team made history by clinching the gold medal at the prestigious Badminton Asia Team Championships 2024. The team secured a thrilling 3-2 victory over Thailand in the final held in Shah Alam, Malaysia.
Anmol Kharb emerged as India’s star player, defeating a higher-ranked opponent in the final match to secure the historic win. This victory marked India’s first-ever title in the history of the continental competition, with the men’s team previously only managing two bronze medals in 2016 and 2020.
Olympic medallist PV Sindhu set the tone for India’s success by defeating Supanida Katethong in the opening singles rubber. Sindhu’s dominant performance helped India take an early lead in the final.

The Indian duo of Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand continued the winning streak by upsetting their Thai opponents in a hard-fought match, extending India’s lead to 2-0.
Thailand fought back with Busanan Ongbamrungphan securing a victory over Ashmita Chaliha in the second singles rubber. This win kept Thailand’s hopes alive in the final.
In a tense final match, Priya Konjengbam and Shruti Mishra were defeated by the Thai pair, setting the stage for a nail-biting decider between India’s Anmol Kharb and Thailand’s Pornpicha Choeikeewong.
Despite the pressure, Anmol Kharb delivered a stunning performance, defeating her opponent in straight sets to secure India’s historic gold medal win.
